Why You Should Purchase Paraben Free Hair Care Products And Skin Care Products

by Hairloss_Guru, under Beauty

We have gotten used to reading the ingredients on the food products we buy, but take a look at the back of your hair care product container and look at the ingredient list. You’ll see a word crop up frequently: parabens. Some of the variants of this are listed here:
• Methylparaben
• Ethylparaben
• Propylparaben
• Butylparaben
• Benzyl-parahydroxybenzoic acid
• Methyl-parahydroxybenzoic acid
• Ethyl-parahydroxybenzoic acid
• Propyl-parahydroxybenzoic acid
• Butyl-parahydroxybenzoic acid
• Parahydroxybenzoic acid
• Parahydroxybenzoate

Parabens are a preservative that is commonly found in hair products, makeup, skin lotions, creams, cleansers, lipsticks, lip glosses, deodorants and shaving gels etc. to keep them from bacterial and fungal contamination and it is inexpensive. However, there’s nothing natural or organic about them.

Natural oils found in moisturizers and other skincare products can become rancid if no preservative is incorporated , but natural vitamin E is an effective preservative and an effective beauty preserver as well. Most companies choose not to use it, because it costs more.

What’s Harmful with parabens?

Parabens are being used in products like lotions, deodorants, and make-up that stay on the skin for extened periods of time, and are absorbed directly into the body. a few scientists are concerned that parabens could pass through the skin, into the bloodstream and bypass the gastrointestinal system, which normally breaks down and eliminates toxins from the body.

More and more women are becoming concerned that their hair care products and cosmetics could indeed be toxic. For several years now, the scientific community has been raising red flags about parabens and their health effects, especially on women. A recent study was shown that Paraben was found inside the tumors of some women with breast cancer. It is also believed that excess estrogen stored in the body can cause the growth of fibroids in women.

The Problem With Parabens

Opponents say parabens, particularly butylparaben, disrupt normal hormone functioning by mimicking estrogen. Scientific evidence suggests exposure to estrogen and substances that behave like estrogen may increase a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer.

Another reason that many people are starting to shun stay away from , is that experiments on animals have shown that it has an estrogenic activity on the body. This sort of hormone disruption can cause various effects on the body, not limited to the fact that it can interfere with the normal hormone balance in both males and females alike.

While there are no conclusive studies that prove beyond a doubt that parabens increase the risk or cause cancer, the discussion continues over whether the preservative should be in used at all. Until it is known for sure that it’s safe, many organic associations have decided it is best to err on the side of caution and avoid the chemical altogether.

Paraben-Free Hair & Skin Care Products

Finding Paraben free products can be a difficult task since the majority of cosmeticson the market do contain this chemical preservative although some companies are starting to accept the use of healthier alternatives. All we can do is keep reading labels, stay informed consumers, and avoid products that we don’t feel comfortable with.

A number forward-thinking manufacturers are turning to essential oils such as caraway, cinnamon, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, rose, sandalwood, and tea tree, which when distilled, are potent enough to act as natural antiseptics, antifungals and antibacterials. Parabens have also been replaced with grapefruit seed extract and Vitamin E in certain nontoxic hair care products and cosmetics
